"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark." Victor Hugo

Speaking of sparks, one of my most favorite places to go on an easy adventure is the library! I'm usually the one holding way more books than humanly possible. Yet some how, they let me out with the whole stack! We can blame it on the 50 book check-out limit. Seriously.

Much like vintage or thrift store shopping, there is a lot of browsing up and down isles. This is a practice of patience, attention, and listening to my Human Design Splenic Authority!

If you don't know how a Defined Spleen Energy Center works, its an in-the-moment intuitive hit of inner knowing. You can't predict when an intuitive hit will come or what for. To stay ready for whatever or wherever my intuition leads me to, I know there are several small ways I can tune into and flex this muscle of mine. Going to the library to collect a spread is a safe and free way for me to trust my inner knowings!

On my recent trip to the George W. Hawkes Downtown library in Arlington, Texas, I rounded up 12 books. As I mentioned above, my process for finding books is very intuitive. I start with at least one book or subject in mind and go from there! Starting with the New Books section is another great place to find something unexpected and new.

Here are the recent titles//

  • The Path - What Chinese Philosophers Can Teach Us About the Good Life

  • How To Be Parisian Where You Are - Love, Style and Bad Habits

  • The Road Less Traveled - A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values, and Spiritual Growth

  • The Gardens of Emily Dickinson

  • Confucius From The Heart - Ancient Wisdom for Today's World

  • Art Is A Spiritual Path - Engaging the Sacred Through the Practice of Art & Writing

  • Seeking The Sacred - Transforming Our View of Ourselves and One Another

  • Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass

  • Wild Interiors

  • Joie - A Parisian's Guide to Celebrating the Good Life

  • Create Your Own Artist's Journal

  • John Henry Twachtman - An American Impressionist

The title I started with here was How To Be Parisian Where You Are. I'd already checked out this book months ago, but there were some notes I forgot to take! After that, I wandered around this section to see what else in the same genre might pop up... this led me to Joie!

Per usual, I end up in the poetry section where I picked up The Gardens of Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass.

Also per usual, I found my way back to the philosophy/religion/spirituality section and found The Path, The Road Less Traveled, Confucius From the Heart, Art Is A Spiritual Path and Seeking the Sacred.

Books on art, interior/aesthetic/visual design, fashion and anything about creativity naturally find their way into my meandered curation, hence, Wild Interiors, Create Your Own Artist's Journal and John Henry Twachtman - An American Impressionist.

Do yourself favor this year and sign up for a library card! There's so much to learn, see, take pleasure in, get lost in or inspired by... besides, its FREE!

To quote my favorite reading geek, LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow, who inspired me endlessly as a child,

"You don't have to take my word for it!"

Fun Fact// I don't always read through all of my library books. I skim through them all and decide which ones I want to dive into. Some times there's only one thing I may get like an idea or image or quote. Don't feel like you have to commit fully to any one book!
