THE ART OF INTERPRETATION

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
This quote is historically known as the Golden Rule. It is this principle (written in the positive form) that informs the writing below and what follows is my attempt to paint a portrait of the core ethical lense through which I will do my work now and always.
One of my favorite hobbies is to read people's Human Design charts.
Yes, certainly the charts of the people in my life: family members, friends, clients, etc. But the real Hobby-ing is done with public figures. People in our world who serve as examples, lessons and stories for us living publicly unknown existences. People whose energetic expressions speak to me. Stir my own energy in some capacity...
I am a Projector, what can I say? "Seeing" into others beyond what lies on the surface is my thing.
Being drawn to particular energies has always been a part of my life. In childhood, I would find myself interested in specific individuals and initiate interactions. As many fellow Projectors could guess, my friendly attempts were sometimes met with acceptance & reciprocation while other times, more than I’d like to admit, rejection hit me in the face. Hard.
It wasn’t until I saw my blueprint for the mechanics of my personal energy that I understood why I was facing resistance from people.
I’ve spent the last few years unearthing the multifaceted layers of my Human Design, which has resulted in many game-changing epiphanies. New, intense awarenesses in so many areas of my life! It felt like I was born again in a way.
"New Eyes", as I've said.
But still, even after perseverating over every detail of my own energy mechanics, the times I've learned the most was through learning about other people. This kind of self exploration process of learning about oneself through "the other" is quintessential Projector. As well as the cultural anthropolgist in me!
The world holds so many fascinating stories of human successes & failures, rise & decline, wisdom & hubris, public facination (positive & negative) or extraordinary uniquenesses. Its been natural for me to answer the call of my Splenic intuition and follow my own facination with these kinds of fascinating characters both in the history books and in current times.
It’s my use of anthropological tools and insights (more on these later) that I bring to the table to try to better understand what makes us us and to find answers to the how & why we do the things we do. Human Design has gifted me another important lense to filter out the mystery of human experience.
Revel!
What I also bring from my anthropology background is an ethical backbone and universal love & respect for our divine humanity. The quest for understanding our species in the past & present and my personal calling to aid in the guidance of our future evolution demands the higher principles of integrity, compassion and open-mindedness to the variedness of human expression.
Thus, reading someone’s chart and publishing my findings + interpretations is a process of great care and respectful intention.
I can’t emphasize this enough!
Potential is never certain when it comes to an Astrology Reading or Human Design Chart analysis. Every single one of us is born with the innate free will to make our own decisions and choose our own direction in life. The good & the bad; the beautiful & the ugly; the successes & failures... it is on each of us to express our potential in limited or negative ways OR to carry out a fully realized manifestations of divine energy.
But Do Note: we have been given the opportunity to rediscover the wisdom to learn and understand the mechanical breakdown of how our energy truly works. Another veil has been lifted to help expand the limits of our current understanding and this is not something to play with (although, it is playful) with or take lightly as it is a sacred gift.
From those who have passed, our ancestors, we can always and should always try to learn the lessons of those experiences so that we can move forward with more wisdom and awareness. Human memory is unique and it holds the gift of retrospection for the sake of the present. Thus, for me, looking at a Human Design chart of someone who is no longer living is a practice of retrospection. A chance to dig deeper, in between the lines of their story and feel into the lessons of an individual life through their energetic makeup.
The living on the other hand I believe is different. There’s still life to be lived and potential yet to be revealed. So shining light on what is very much still alive deserves the utmost ethics, respect, integrity, and humanity like we offer to the dead.
That said, it wouldn’t feel right if I began to present information about other peoples' charts and interpretations about those details without having presented my own!
This was one of the biggest lightbulb moments of my academic career in cultural anthropology; a realization that came about from a deeper flexion of what it means to be a cultural anthropologist job; of being "in the field", interviewing "informants" as an "authoritative observer" and producing ethnographies of those interpretations.
Why is it OK for me to go poking in other peoples lives when I haven’t got my shit together or spent time pointing the finger back at myself?
What rate do I have to say anything authoritative about another human being when I’m still trying to figure out this thing called life on my end? My traumas, my history, my own Psychosis, to the assumed world around me?
One of my favorite anthropology quotes is:
To make the strange familiar and the familiar strange.
It is my belief that if there is any authoritative right to be had, that it must be earned BEFORE interpreting the lives and ways of living of other people; to start by looking at your own reflection and the meaning of what you find in that reflection.
It’s only when we begin to pull back the layers of our individual assumptions about culture, politics, identity, etc. that we find all kinds of details & perspectives that we were totally blind to. But look in the mirror we must. Even if you, as the reader, might not be so interested or invested in what other people are doing or why as I am.
It is my intention to lay out my own chart, and present a personal analysis of potential and possibility, before digging in to anyone else’s story. In time!
In part II, I will go into the main points of my chart synopsis and offer a personal interpretation some of the details of nuances of my energetics. My hope is that I create a respectful format for presenting other peoples charts through the presentation of my own!
Circling back to the Golden Rule:
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
All love & respect,
Lara-Lay
